What We Do During the Day
The children are invited to have snack during morning work time. We promote good health and encourage children to make good choices in the foods they eat. Please help us by packing healthy and nutritious snacks and label the snack bag or container “SNACK”. Water and napkins are provided during snack time.
Read, Read, Read. Children enjoy hearing stories as well as reading them wither they read the words or make up their own story taking cues from the illustrations. We ask that you or your child read to you for a minimum of 20 minutes a night.
Homework is sent home every Friday in a purple folder and is returned by the following Friday. Many of the tasks may seem below your child’s skill level but the purpose of the homework is to build responsibility, engage parents’ in their child’s education, and to extend learning beyond the classroom.
Our lunchtime is scheduled for a half hour and for the most part is outside at the picnic tables (rainy days lunch is inside the classrooms). We encourage respectful table manners and common grace and courtesy. To make lunchtime run smoothly, we ask that parents pack 2 cloth napkins or washcloths, forks or spoons and foods that do not require to be heated and are easy for the child to assemble independently.
HOMEWORK
Birthdays are a great representation of the child’s time line. It seems that in our rushed and hurried world we spend less and less time on moments of celebration. It is an important part of the human spirit to share joyful moments with one another. We celebrate birthdays with or traditional Montessori “Walking Around the Sun” and in the afternoon.
Flowers: Fresh flowers are a beautiful visual of each year of the child’s life and a wonderful gift for the class.
Snack: We ask that snacks be healthy, for example, yogurt, Popsicles, muffins, popcorn and etc.
